VCom and Navigata WiMAX Partnership

Victoria, BC – (Dec 13, 2004) – VCom Inc., a world-leading designer and manufacturer of wireless telecom products, has partnered with Navigata Communications Inc., a member of the SaskTel group of companies, to provide the primary equipment required for Kamloops to be the first location in Canada to receive the benefits of new WiMAX technology. This technology expands the traditional small wireless hotspots currently available in larger cities, to include the entire city of Kamloops and much of its surrounding area.

"Navigata is core to SaskTel’s business and is a strategic component in SaskTel’s overall business plan," said Robert Watson, SaskTel President and CEO. "This partnership with VCom to deploy leading edge technology will assist Navigata and SaskTel in finding new ways to serve residents in their respective provinces."

"Navigata is extremely pleased to partner with VCom to deliver wireless Internet access to Kamloops residents," said Daryl Silzer, Navigata President. "We are anticipating that the trial of Navigata’s wireless Internet service will be available to our customers in the Kamloops area in the coming year. Upon a successful pilot, Navigata will look at the expansion of its wireless Internet access to our customers in other communities in Alberta and British Columbia."

"The successful deployment of VCom’s technologies in this pilot will allow us to showcase our leading edge wireless products in Canada and around the world," said Dr. Surinder Kumar, VCom President and Founder. "This partnership also allows us to continue the research and development required for the general commercialization of VCom’s WiMAX products."

VCom will be the exclusive developer and supplier of the wireless technology to be used in the pilot to undertake broadband WiMAX wireless network development in Kamloops and its immediate surrounding areas. WiMAX was designed to deliver broadband wireless access service in metro centers from a fixed location wireless Internet access point. The wireless Internet service is a high-speed service offering data rates between 512 Kbps and 3 Mbps that uses radio frequency waves in the 3500 MHz licensed band to transmit the signals. Most residents within an approximate radius of 25 km of the Internet-provisioned towers in Kamloops, dependent on terrain, will be able to access the service.
